Room 3 Goes to Brockville Kindy

On Thursday we drove up to Brockville Kindy to share some songs, poems and a read a story to the children there. Zaraya and Alex were able to see some of their old friends and teachers.
We sang some of our favourite songs and invited the kindy kids to join in with the actions. They are pretty good movers!

We showed our colourful fish that we had made and recited our fish poem. We used our loud clear voices so everyone could hear.

The children at the kindy had made some yummy scones and chocolate slice for us to eat for morning tea and they had some healthy apple and orange slices as well. We had lots to eat and then we had a quick play with them outside.

We had a great time sharing our learning and we hope to visit another kindy next term.

Warrington Beach Visit

Last Friday the whole school spent the day out at Warrington beach exploring the rock pools. It was a great day - sunny and warm with a bit of a breeze! We started off with Room 4 creating some sand art on the beach. Some people drew pictures with their finger or a shell. Zaraya drew herself and Maka and his Dad started a very cool octopus with seaweed.

After morning tea we headed over to the rock pools. There were some big boulders for us to climb over. We had a good look in the pools and found lots of chiton, shells, crabs, a few seastars, anemones and even a biggish small fish!

We had lunch and a play on the playground. After that we had a scavenger hunt trying to find about 15 different items. Well done to those teams that managed to find everything - it was pretty tricky!

We had an awesome day and we want to go back!!

A Special Visitor

Last week we had a big trailer unit in the driveway and a cute fuzzy giraffe inside. Harold was here at Bradford. He came with Richard who talked to us about our body and how it breathes to keep us alive.

We did some body maths.

Did you know that oxygen + food = ENERGY?

We also helped Richard find out where different parts of our body belong. Here we are placing models of the heart, lungs, brain, veins and windpipe on the carpet kid. We think we might grow up to be doctors because we are pretty good with body parts!

Welcome back to Room 3 2012!!

Hi everyone! We started back today and we've had a great day. There are 9 of us at the moment and 8 children started today for the first time! Here we are in the playground perched on the balancing blocks.

We have been getting to know each other and the classroom today. The room looked very bare. Most of the walls are empty but we are all excited about making it OUR room and putting OUR stuff up on the walls.

We started today with creating a jigsaw display and we all made our own piece to fit together with everyone else's piece. We all belong to Room 3 and we all bring our own ideas, feelings, and preferences to share. This makes our class interesting and full of variety. Here are some pictures of what we have done.

Here are all our jigsaw pieces on the wall.

Puppet Show

Last week we had a huge puppet making week. Kaitrin and Drew came every day and helped us make some cool puppets. We made scoopmouths out of laundry powder scoops, pop-ups and onion heads. We were pretty busy practicing some songs and rhymes for a big school presentation last friday. We practiced outside Room 1 but it rained after lunch so we had to have it in Room 6.
It was a bit of a squash but it was still pretty amazing!

We were too busy to take photos during the making time but here are a few.

Room 3 with pop-up
puppets

These colourful birds
danced and looked
like real birds!

The soapbox puppets sang a song.
Their mouths moved.

These children
made foam mouths.
They told funny jokes.

Room 4 made spookies.
They were floaty in the air.

We had so much fun. Can we do that every year please?!

Being Safe

We have started our new topic for this term and it's all about being safe.

We have had Constable Heather Rei visit our class and talk to us about being safe when we are out walking. Her main message is that we should always be with an adult when crossing roads and to listen to them.

Here we are at the pedestrian crossing in our carpark.
We need to stop, look and listen for cars.
We walk quickly across the road when it is safe, looking up and down the road as we go.

When we cross the street we stop at the kerb and take one step back. We look up the road. We look down the road. We look along the road to check for any traffic. When it is safe we cross.
Here we are holding hands to keep safe. Can you see us? We have some special vests that make us really stand out!

When we walk along the path we walk on the house side, away from the road.

Are you a safe walker?
