Staying Healthy

Today we had a visit from Karen the Public Health Nurse. She talked to us about ways we can stay healthy and keep from getting sick or catching colds from other people.

We are showing you the way to wash your hands. We want to get the germs off so we don't give them to other people. We want the soap to go all over our hands - on the top, in between the fingers and around the thumbs. After we soap our hands we need to wash it all off and then dry our hands really well.

We should wash our hands....
- before we eat
- after playing outside
- after going to the toilet
and any other time they get dirty.

Sometimes we need to blow our nose with a tissue. We should cover our nose with the tissue and blow out our nose...not our mouth. We might need to give it a wipe as well. Then we put the tissue in the bin.

When we cough we should cough into our arm so we don't give our coughs to other people. We don't cough into our hands because then we touch things or people and they get our germs.

Jacob is practicing how to blow his nose. You need to have your mouth closed. Jacob has got some cotton wool on his hand. He is trying to blow it off just with the air out of his nose. This was fun to try!

You can help us keep healthy by reminding us to....
  • wash our hands carefully
  • cough and sneeze into our arms/elbow
  • blow our noses in to a tissue
We might remind you too!
